Brand name for lisinopril, Avil is a well-known angiotensin-converting-enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. Avil is reduces racing blood pressure to provide relief to cardiac patients. However, Physicians may use Avil for the treatment of other diseases.

Contraindications

For prescribing the right dosage to you, your doctor needs to know in details about your past and present medical conditions. Don't forget to inform him before he prescribes Avil to you, if you are already suffering from kidney, cardiac diseases or have high amount of potassium in blood.
Listed in the FDA pregnancy category D, Avil is potent enough to cause damage to the growing embryo if taken during pregnancy. It can result in the premature death of the fetus if taken during the second and third phases of pregnancy. Thus Avil should not be taken during pregnancy. So far it is not known for sure whether Avil passes into breast milk or not. Doctors and researchers have two different opinions on this. Some had opined in favor and some against Avil. To be on the safer side, it is thus recommended not to go for Avil while breast-feeding without consulting with a doctor.
Children may be especially sensitive to the blood pressure-lowering effect of ACE inhibitors. This may increase the chance of side effects or other problems during treatment. Side Effects

Avil may give birth to serious and fatal side effects like racing heartbeat, reduced amount of urine, excessive tiredness, breathing trouble, closed throat, swollen lips, tongue, or face. Rush to your doctor as soon as you experience any of the following as these side effects may be detrimental.
Users of Avil quite often face side effects like reduced sexual drive, headache, dry, tickling cough, muscle cramps, numbness or tingling in the hands, feet, arms, or legs, vomiting, diarrhea, skin rash. These side effects are known to be less harmful.
Side effects abdominal pain, high body temperature, tremors, hoarseness, yellow eyes or skin are rare but found. Don't ignore any of the above-mentioned side effects and see a doctor as soon as possible.

Overdose

So far no cases of Avil overdose with fatal consequences have been reported. But the possibilities cannot be ruled out however. Consult your doctor as soon as you can make out that you have taken in a double dose or experience overdose symptoms like excessive fatigue, drowsiness or fall unconscious suddenly.
On the other hand, missing a dose of Avil is not harmful. Just pop in the dose as soon as you remember that you have missed one. But if it is already time for the next dose, just go on and take the scheduled one and forget about the last one. Avoid taking double dose at all costs. Remember that the drug needs to be taken in proper dose regularly for best results.

Intake Guidelines

Follow the instructions prescribed by the doctor strictly for the best usage guidelines. Normally Avil is taken with glass full of water. There is no hard and fast rule regarding the intake of Avil without or without food. Take special care while driving, working on a machine or undertaking some risky task after the intake of Avil. Also stop taking alcohol while taking Avil, as the combination is known to bring down blood pressure resulting in drowsiness and sudden fainting. Take more and more liquid and avoid salty food as Avil may cause dehydration. Remember not to cease intake of Avil suddenly without consulting a doctor. Last but not the least; store Avil at room temperature away from moisture and heat for best results.
